McGregor vs Poirier fight scholarship at UFC 264: how much money will they make?

Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirer to face each other for the third time at UFC 264 in Las Vegas on Saturday, July 11, with a score tied at 1-1.

McGregor took the win when the pair first met in September 2014, with the Dubliner winning by technical knockout in the second minute of the first round. More than six years later, the Diamond finally got their revenge in January at UFC 257, knocking out McGregor in the third minute of the second round after particularly targeting the Irishman’s legs.

But McGregor – who was admittedly taken by surprise by Poirer’s footwork in Fight 2, which left him with a badly swollen shin – will undoubtedly be ready for similar tricks if his opponent goes for another leg-centric strategy when they meet in Las Vegas at UFC 264. Poirer will no doubt be aware of that, which means he’ll likely have other tricks up his sleeve, while the all-rounder McGregor will surely have a few.

Poirer and McGregor enter the fight with respective records of 27-6-0 and 22-5-0. The Diamond are aiming for their third straight win after their most recent wins over Dan Hooker (June 2020) and McGregor (January 2021), while the Notorious, who have only had one fight in the past two and a half years, is looking to avoid back-to-back defeats for the first time in his UFC career.

Poirier vs McGregor 3: Payouts

It’s difficult to get confirmation of the exact numbers on what McGregor and Poirer will win from the fight as the promotion doesn’t officially disclose scholarship payouts. But McGregor would receive a guaranteed purse of $ 3 million as well as a 60% share of pay-per-view (PPV) revenue.

The 32-year-old Dubliner is estimated to be able to earn around $ 10 million in total from combat, including the guaranteed purse, PPV revenue share, sponsorship, and performance bonuses. Not a bad salary for the Notorious, whose estimated net worth is $ 200 million

Meanwhile, Porier would earn a guaranteed scholarship of $ 1 million and 40% of PPV earnings. Including guaranteed scholarship, share of PPV income, sponsorship and performance bonuses, estimates are that the diamond will pocket a total of around $ 3 millionn – a huge sum for a fighter with an estimated net worth of between $ 2-4 million.
