LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Lincoln Police Department officers said a woman was dragged out of a moving car as she tried to retrieve her stolen purse.
At around 10 a.m., police were called to the Hyvee on 84th Street in northeast Lincoln on Sunday, when an employee found a 53-year-old woman lying on the sidewalk outside the grocery store.
LPD said the officers who responded spoke to the woman who explained that she was sleeping in the backseat of her GMC pickup truck in the far east of the parking lot when she heard the door open.
Police said the woman said she saw a man open the truck door and grab his purse from the front seat.
Police said the woman got out of the truck and tried to retrieve her handbag, but the man got into his car and she was still holding the handbag.
LPD said the man walked away, dragging the woman to the side of the car.
Police said the woman sustained serious injuries to her leg and was taken to a hospital in Lincoln.
Officers were able to watch surveillance footage from HyVee that showed a small, dark-colored 4-door car pulling up beside the woman’s truck. LPD said the video showed the same account of what happened that the woman had described.
LPD stated that there was a loss of approximately $ 1,600 in this business.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call LPD at (402) 441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at (402) 475-3600.
